4th SON OF THOMAS AND NINA ARTHUR CARMICHAEL. Lived at 'Netherton' Ardgowan Street with parents. 3 Brothers Serving. Employed Messrs Hardy and Rowan. Brother David Arthur was killed 17/4/1918
Commissioned 11th March 1913. Killed by shrapnel on charge of 12th July.
To the glory of God In memory of Robert Henry Morris Carmichael Lieutenant C Company 1/5th Battalion Princess Louise's Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders 4th and youngest son of Thomas and Nina Carmichael, Netherton, Greenock. Born at 35 Esplanade, Greenock 27th January 1895. Killed in action by shrapnel leading his platoon in the charge against the Turkish trenches on Achi Baba, Gallipoli Peninsula, 12 July 1915 in his 21st year. The Battalion was ordered to take four successive Turkish trenches. Charged with nineteen officers. Carried and held these trenches with six officers and the survivors of the Battalion. This memorial tablet was presented to the West Kirk by his cousin Sarah Grey Boyd, 1916
