Nicol, J E. Served as Lieutenant, RNVR (Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve), with the Nelson Battalion, 1st Brigade of the RND (Royal Naval Division), 1914-1915; and on board HMS Roxburgh, 1916. He was active at Antwerp, the Dardanelles and Gallipoli, and with the Atlantic Convoys, 1914-1918. Wounded at Gallipoli Naval Hospital Malta with Pyrexia and left RND 25/10/1915 and appointed to HMS Excellent. By 1939 he was a retired Commander.
