Samuel Owen

Born 20th February 1885 at Renton Dunbartonshire son of Robert Owens and Margaret Miller, husband of Susan Jamieson of John Wilson Street, Greenock. Joined the army in 1908 and re-enlisted on 6th October 1914. Taken prisoner in late 1914 at Gheuvelt during the initial retreat from Mons. Wounded and listed as an Army Pensioner. Died (of wounds) in the Red Cross Hospital, Ralston, Paisley on 19th July 1935. Wrote an account of his time at Gastrow POW Camp which has been reproduced in 'Inverclyde's Great War' publication.
