Son of W Gibson and Mary Wedderspoon, 32 Cluny Gardnes, Edinburgh and Rangoon, Burma. His family had close links with Greenock and his mother was living in Greenock at the time of his death.

Brother of William Gibson F Wedderspoon.

He attended George Watsons. Studied Arts at Edinburgh University. Joined the EUOTC(Art)and received commission in RFA 52 Lowland Div in Jan 1915. Later qualified as pilot and served in Asia and Palestine before going to Western Front.
