Gordon Timbrell

225 Sergeant Gordon Timbrell, 3rd Light Horse Regiment was a 23 year old shipping manager from North Adelaide, South Australia, when he enlisted on 19 August 1914.  He was a member of the Adelaide Rowing Club whence most of this information was sourced.

Born  in Glasgow, Scotland, his mother resided in London at the time of his enlistment. Son of Charlotte Whyte RODGER (formerly TIMBRELL), 22 Heath Gate, Golders Green, London, England, and the late Samuel TIMBRELL. Native of Glasgow, Scotland.  Per service record Mother, Mrs. Anderson Roger, jun., 59 Longridge Road, Earl's Court, London, England. Stepson of Anderson Rodger of Greenock. 

Sgt Timbrell embarked for overseas from Adelaide on 22 October 1914 aboard HMAT Port Lincoln.

The 3rd Light Horse deployed to Gallipoli without its horses, landing there on 12 May 1915 and playing a defensive role throughout the campaign. Sgt Timbrell was killed in action in Monash Valley on 1 July 1915 and is buried in Shrapnel Valley Cemetery, Gallipoli.

Enlisted 19th August in Morphetville. Embarked onboard HMAT Port Lincoln, Adelaide.
