Born Greenock. An engineer, he signed up on 5th September 1914 aged 23 but was initially employed as Munitions worker at Elswick Works in Newcastle before being sent back to his unit due to refusing to continue working there.

His mother lived at 10 Kelly Street

formerly 6913 5th Res. Cavalry Regiment. Reported missing on 25th March 1918 and officially presumed killed on that date.
