Born Kilbirnie, resided Greenock, enlisted Glengarnock. 

(The Scotsman 20th August 1915) however states:
"Andrew Shakevitch, killed at the Dardanelles, was a member of Glengarnock section, D Company, 4th R.S.F. He was of Polish extraction, and resided with his parents at Glengarnock, where his services as interpreter were often in demand."
