The first Port Glasgow man to lay down his life for King & Country. The photo of him is from a post card which he sent home the day before sailing for France. On the other side were the intensely pathetic words to his wife "We leave for for the front tonight. Kiss John and Andrew for me. Tell your father and mother I was asking kindly for them. God bless you all" There were other little tidings of affection upon which the public eye may not gaze, but these were the last words to the home of one of our townsmen who has fallen in a righteous cause and whose name shall go down to posterity as one of the heroes of the British Empire.
