Son of Mr and Mrs James McCartney. 

Brother of Andrew, Harry and Samuel who were serving in the Royal Irish Fusiliers and Robert who was serving in the Royal Navy. He also had a sister who was undertaking hospital work in France. His brother W.J. was in the Royal Irish Fusiliers and died on April 26th 1916.
