William Hopkin

Apprentice Shipwright born 25/10/1896. William & Jessie 27 Bruce St. Younger brother of Clyde 1/2015 Robert Hopkin, Killied in Action 6/5/15.

Sometimes spelt Hopkins. 

Enlisted 30/3/14. Anson battalionn A/106, 22/8/14-30/4/15. GSW left leg severe, rejoined Anson Battalion(Attached Howe Battalion) 28/5/15. Rejoined Anson Battalion 10/9/15-30/10/15, Dental Caries (Tooth Decay), rejoined Anson Battalion 22/12/15-29/3/16 to UK for Sea service. HMS President III 26/1/17-19/2/1.

Died through the sinking of SS Barrowmore

S.S. Barrowmore was built at Stockton-on-Tees in 1911 by Richardson, Duck & Co. She served during the war as a defensively-armed British merchant steamship.
 
On the 19th February 1918 she was 53 miles from Bishop Rock (Isles of Scilly) on a voyage from Huelva to Port Talbot with a cargo of copper ore and precipitate. She was torpedoed without warning and sunk by a submarine U94 . Twenty-five lives were lost including the Master.
 
At the time of her sinking she was owned by Furness Withy & Co. Ltd
