SON OF WILLIAM AND MARGARET CAMERON, OF 23 ROYAL STREET, GOUROCK, RENFREWSHIRE.
William Cameron was born on 21 August 1891, the son of William and Margaret Cameron. In July 1907, when he was 15 years old, he went to work for National Bank of Scotland as apprentice at its Gourock branch. He became a clerk there in July 1910, and in January moved to Helensburgh branch as a teller.
During the First World War Cameron left the bank to go on military service, and by 1918 was a Second Lieutenant in the Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. He was killed in action on the Western Front on 17 June 1918. He was 26 years old.
