Robert Miller Denholm

SON OF JOHN DENHOLM, SHIPOWNER, OF "LAWTHORN,' 13 OCTAVIA TERRACE, GREENOCK. BORN AT GREENOCK on 23rd May 1899.

Entered Air Service 10th June 1917. Appointed Temp Flight Officer 10/6/1917 at Crystal Palace. Moved to Chingford. Killed there 28/7/1917. Accident to MF5733 M/C crashing to earth in a spinning nose-dive, this Officer being killed. 

July 27, 1917 At about 1000hrs on Friday July 27 (or July 28) a trainee pilot operating from RNAS air station Chingford took off for a solo flight in a Maurice Farman 57 Longhorn pusher N5733. During this flight, whilst still close to the airfield, the aircraft was seen to break up in the air and crash 600 to 700 feet to the ground. The pilot, 18 year old probationary pilot Robert Miller Denholm died. It was subsequently adjudged that one of the wing struts had failed.
