Brother of Norman, James and Frederick Stewart.

Family from Inverkeilor, Angus. Murray lived at 5 Station Road, Port Glasgow. A joiner with the Clyde Shipbuilding Coy, also Russells.

Joined in 1908 and served through till 1918. He then signed up again in 1922. Had been gassed at one point suffering slight disability. Was at Shoreham in 1918 as part of the Reserves and was released on 1/11/1918 for shipbuilding
