John McCartney

Worked as a Grocer. The son of Patrick and Helen McCartney, 28 Wellington Street, Greenock.Had a sister Margaret aged 21.

Called up 17th April 1916 and posted to 1/8th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and then to 5th Reserve and 1/7th. Joined 19th Infantry Base Depot.

Died at Maida Vale as a result of GSW to the head and Meningitis received 4th December 1917 near Cambrai, France.

Buried at Greenock Cemetery. Grave Reference OO. 613.
