Remembering those who fought in the Great War.

John Campbell - 5th Argylls

SON OF DANIEL AND EMILY CAMPBELL, OF 8 EAST SHAW ST., GREENOCK.

John Campbell was killed by a machine gun bullet on 29 July 1918. His Major in a letter  to his parents describes how he was killed in a fierce battle, he then goes on to describe where his comrades buried their son with a bottle containing his papers at the head of his grave. Sadly, John’s body was never recovered, he is remembered on the Soissons Memorial.
