Carpenter born in Greenock on Feb 5th 1883. Enlisted in Toronto July 29 1915. Next of Kin 48 Lynedoch St., Greenock, Scotland

John Borthwick was buried at Prospect Cemetery, St. Clair Av. West, Toronto, Ont. A special Veterans' plot was set aside in this cemetery in 1917 to be used for returned soldiers. This was a project of the cemetery and the Great War Veterans' Association. The first interment in this plot was made on August 5th, 1917. (Toronto Star - Sept. 14, 1917). A Cross of Sacrifice is central to the Veterans' plot at Prospect. This Cross was unveiled on Sunday June 4th, 1922.
