From the family website - Son of W Gibb Stuart, Mossgiel n 1880 William Gibb Stuart established himself in the villages of Kilmacolm and Bridge of Weir, Renfrewshire as an Ironmonger, Painter and Decorator. The business was successful and thrived up to World War I when four sons enlisted, one of whom was killed in action and another was badly wounded. His son, also William Gibb Stuart, despite his war wounds managed to grow the business through the difficulties of the twenties and thirties and by 1939 had made it a thriving business employing about 30 staff.
