SON OF THE LATE CHARLES AND BRIDGET BOYLE. BORN AT GREENOCK, 5th June 1881. 

Built for Eskside Steam Shipping Co. Ltd. (C.Smales & Sons); Yard No 418; Launched 09/08/1910; Vessel torpedoed by UB-88 at 11.45 p.m., the torpedo hit No1 hold on the starboard side, well below water line; Vessel sank in six minutes; 38 crew including pilot. Ten lives lost.

During the pre-dawn hours of 25th June UB-88encountered and sank a British steamer, the 4,482-ton SS AFRICAN TRANSPORT. The 25th was UB-88´s lucky day for, that evening, she ran onto a 20-ship convoy heading south. The U-boat sank SS MOORLANDS and then survived a 16-charge depth bombing by the convoy escorts.
