Son of Andrew Black (Joiner). Lived with parents at 30 Lyndoch Street, Greenock. Apprentice Engineer with Rankin and Blackmore.

Rank: Private Drummer. 

Wounded in knee and back, 12th July 1915. Transferred to base hospital.
