Frederick S. Vere Barr

Known as F.S. Vere Barr.

Son of the Late Dr. Barr and Mrs Smith (of St. Marys Rectory but previously of Beaconsfield). Brother of Francis C. Gordon Barr who was serving in the Highland Light Infantry. 

Before the war had worked at Messrs. Smith, MacDonald & Crawford, solicitors, Greenock and was a member of the Rowing Club. 

Honours

According to the Greenock Telegraph of August 1918 he was awarded the Croix de Guerre and the Military Cross. 

Joined the Gordon Highlanders with three friends including Robert McCulloch who died. Undertook training at Aberdeen. 

Was wounded at the Battle of Loos. After he recovered he received a commission as a Lieutenant in the 8th Scottish Rifles. He was present at the Great Victory March in Paris 1919
