Information was received last week that Lieut. Ebenezer Maclay, of the Scots Guards, was shot by a German sniper, and died on April 11. Lieut. Maclay was the eldest son of Sir Joseph Maclay, Bart., the Controller of Shipping, and had been on service since the out-break of the war. As an officer of the Scottish Rifles he fought through the Gallipoli campaign, and was the only one of a gallant band of twenty- five who returned safely after scaling the heights. His younger brother, Lieut. William S. Maclay, who served in the same regiment, died of wounds. Sir Joseph Maclay's third son is in the Royal Air Force, and the fourth is still at school.

Previously with 1/8th Cameronians he had been in charge of the machine gun section. He was the only combatatant officer who survived it's time at Gallipoli

Shot by sniper. Buried at Doullens Communal Cemetery Extension NO.1, France. Grave Reference VI. A. 33.
