Remembering those who fought in the Great War.

Duncan G Mitchell

Duncan Mitchell was a son of John Mitchell, Coachbuilder in Greenock. He volunteered at Fort Matilda in 1914 as a Despatch Rider, as he had his own motorbike - an Indian, which had cost £80. He was quickly promoted to sergeant. He served with the 7th Scottish Rifles, who served in Gallipoli, Egypt, Palestine and the Western Front. He received a commission and was seconded to the Royal Flying Corp.

After the war he would take over the Caddlehill Laundry. He was a patron of the Arts, being chairman of the Arts Guild. He served in the Home Guard in WW2 and received an MBE for his services.
