Wife was Next of Kin, she raised a lot of money for the 1/5th Battalion. Lived at "Linwood", Port Glasgow.
He had a daughter Alice(who died in a Fort William care home c2010 and a son Donald, who also was a solicitor and like his father, a Captain of the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders. He was commissioned to the 5/6th Battalion in 1933 aged 19. After evacuation from Dunkirk he captained the 93rd Anti Tank Regiment, Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders

E Company was known as 'Captain Main's Company'.
Reported wounded however was admitted to hospital in Alexandria with dysentery. Came back to Britain and was posted to Ripon Camp for the rest of the war.
