Seventh son of Mr John McGonigle, Clifton Street, Waterside, Londonderry (formerly of Ardground, and possibly died on July 10, 1927, and interred in Killaloo Burying Ground), and Elizabeth McGonigle.

Husband of Martha McGonigle (nee Gallagher), Fawney, Cross, County Londonderry. Brother and brother-in-law of Samuel and Lennie McGonigle, No. 4, Clyde Street, Port Glasgow.

Enlisted Greenock. Trimulgherry, India. Early December sailed for England arriving Avonmouth 10th January 1915. To Rugby and 87th Bde. 29th Div. March 1915 to Mediterranean, Mudros in April. 25th April 1915 landed at Gallipoli. 8/9 January 1916 evacuated Gallipoli and went to Egypt. 

Name recorded on All Saints' Church (Church of Ireland), Clooney Parish 1914-18 Roll of Honour. Name also commemorated on the Diamond War Memorial.
