Alexander Young (Mercantile)

Born at Bridge of Weir. Lived Meadowbank, Kilmacolm. 

Left a widow and children. Son of the late John and Annie Maggie Young. 

Died when SS Lavernock was torpedoed. SS Lavernock, built by Palmers' Shipbuilding & Iron Co. Ltd., Newcastle in 1888 and owned at the time of her loss by Allen Adams & Co. Ltd., Cardiff (Southampton), was a British steamer of 2406 tons.

On September 17th, 1918, Lavernock, on a voyage from Bilbao to Glasgow with a cargo of iron ore, was sunk by the German submarine UB-117 (Erwin Waßner), 5 miles SSW from Trevose Head.

Possibly also part of the Transport Service.
